My latest go-to gift is an e-book. This is probably because I have a lot of reading friends. Almost everybody has either an e-reader or a\u00a0downloaded an app\u00a0e-reader\u00a0for a smartphone or tablet. Even *I*, technophobe extraordinaire, have the Kindle app on my tablet.<\/p>\n

When I’ve read and loved a book, sometimes I’m just dying to share it.\u00a0It\u2019s super EASY to do! All you need is the email address of the person you want to give it to.<\/p>\n

I have a Kindle, so I’ll only give you instructions for it, but I’m sure it’s similar with Nook.<\/p>\n

First, go to Amazon and find the book you want to give. In the right margin there are choices, “Buy With One-Click” and “Add to My Wish List.” Beside these is a little box that says “Give As a Gift.” Click that one.<\/p>\n

You will then be prompted to enter the email address of the recipient. Type it in.<\/p>\n

Below that is a place where you can enter a little message. You can type in “Happy Birthday,” or explain why you thought the person would like this book, or whatever.<\/p>\n

And now, for the best part. You can type in *when* you would like this book delivered–like the person’s upcoming birthday or on Christmas morning or Mother’s Day, or whenever you choose!\u00a0I love that. I wish I were super on-the-ball about birthdays. I think of them a week ahead, and then a week after<\/em> the birthday. But this can cancel out all of that goof-uppiness!<\/p>\n

IN ADDITION… there are times when a favorite book goes on sale on e-Book. (Sometimes a favorite is free for 24 hours or something, even.) On the day or week of the big sale, I can buy and schedule giving to friends and family, to have them delivered on the day of my choosing, and still get the sale price.<\/p>\n

I love a bargain. And I love to share books. And I love that all this is possible at very little trouble to myself. \ud83d\ude42 Generous feelings fill my heart, but laziness and being-short-on-money often overcome the generosity. This trumps all those shortcomings and lets me be the nice person I want to be.<\/p>\n

Now, here’s the shameless self-promotion part coming out. Guess what e-book is on sale this week.<\/a> That’s right. Big in Japan. If you read this blog, you’re probably either related to me or know me from life somewhere and chances are you’ve already been bombarded by this book. But if you haven’t, now’s your big chance to read it for $2.99 on e-book. Meanwhile, a little update on exciting things! For about 9 years of doing genealogy in fits and starts, I’ve been looking for the death date of my great-great grandmother. On Sunday after church, my 13 year old son started doing some genealogy online, making a fan chart, looking up names, and such, which prompted me to pull out my old pedigree chart. Blast! That death date was still missing and still bugging me. I checked the Free BMD index for England once again, in hopes.<\/p>\n

WITHIN FIVE MINUTES I’D FOUND THE INDEX. Yeah! I was so excited. The General Record Office is processing my order and I’ll have the death certificate in a couple of weeks. Yay!<\/p>\n

Genealogy is the most addictive drug I’ve ever taken. Now that my son got me started again, I might not write anything more for a few years. So. Addictive. So. Dangerous. It makes me forget to eat. And that’s serious.<\/p>\n
