My publisher keeps sending me what I can only\u00a0describe as teasers about my upcoming novel, which is set to release July 28th.<\/p>\n

I still haven’t seen the cover for Big in Japan<\/em>, but they tweeted<\/a> that it’s done and it’s fantastic and innovative and … it’s killing me! I’ve got to see this thing! The Exec Editor hinted that there’s a movie poster flavor about it, but that was a few weeks ago. Lots could’ve changed. But since it’s finished, I’m hoping to see it soon.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, my publicist emailed to say a super nice bookstore in SLC contacted them to schedule a booksigning with me, and when will I be in Utah, and stuff. The King’s English<\/a>–I’ve heard of it dozens of times, and when I looked it up it’s so beautiful. I talked to my friend Megan, and she said, “It’s the kind of bookstore you just kind of wish you could live in.” I can see that.\u00a0 … AND it’s still two months before it releases. I’m totally flattered and completely excited. Wow!<\/p>\n

Then tonight, the marketing team posted on Facebook a youtube link.\u00a0<\/a>Along with the link they\u00a0said, “We’re brainstorming ideas for the book trailer of BIG IN JAPAN. What do you think?” When I clicked, it took me to a video of a sumo wrestler, no shirt, running in slow motion–first forward, then backward, then forward again. The flying of the flab was quite entrancing–but not particularly pleasant to watch. Not that I could look away. Kind of like a car accident, or when a stranger you’re talking to has a bit of corn or spinach in their teeth and you don’t know them well enough to say anything.<\/p>\n

Part of the scare of that video is that lately I’ve become a runner. I’m not fast. I’m not particularly thin. There’s a fair chance I might actually look like this while I’m blubbing down the streets of my town in full view of all the world. Yikes! I’d better not think about that too much or I might give up on my resolve!<\/p>\n

I’m not sure the flailing flesh will sell novels, but it’s something I might never forget.<\/p>\n

I can’t wait until we see what they come up with!<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, can I just say, it’s totally fun to be working with such a youthful and enthusiastic publisher? Jolly Fish Press <\/a>rocks.<\/p>\n\n
