This year I took a challenge issued by my friend Heather to read 50 books and watch 50 movies in this calendar year and to blog <\/a>reviews of all of them. It’s been a really fun blog to read–other people’s reads are always interesting. It’s kind of like peeking into someone’s mind, or behind their closet door or something if you know what they’re reading.<\/p>\n

So far, I’m at about 25 books, so I’m on track if I don’t slack off and just spend all my time on Pinterest <\/a>now. Movies, however, are so much harder than I expected!<\/p>\n

Back in the day,\u00a0we didn’t have cable TV (we’ve never had cable) and got zero reception of channels. Plus, no high speed internet, just dial up. So movies were it. I was the video store ghost sometimes (like that library ghost at USU’s Merrill Library<\/a>, the guy in the brown corduroy jacket) lurking the aisles at night just to get a little break from the constant chitchat of my darling little ones. Then we got Netflix<\/a> and watched tons of movies. We even talked about taking them up on their offer of getting up to 8 DVDs at a time in their “Power of Eight” promotion–it was going to be some kind of reward we gave ourselves if we achieved some goal like finishing the backyard landscaping or something. Harhar. That was a lot of movies!<\/p>\n

Then, I started homeschooling and had to get high speed internet. I instantly discovered streaming TV, and shooom. I fear I have now caught up on 15 years of no TV in a 5 year period. No wonder our backyard landscaping still could use some freshening! I should take a picture, post it and title it “Courtesy of Hulu.”<\/p>\n

We still watch movies now and then–like Bollywood<\/a> on streaming, but I find them so soothing…zzzz. I end up catching about 2\/3 of a show. At this sleep-rate, I’m going to be hard-pressed to make it to fifty.<\/p>\n
