I have a big problem with my current project. It’s not exactly\u00a0writer’s block. It’s more like … editor’s block.<\/p>\n

And continuing on with the “block” terminology, it’s kind of like dominoes. Or JENGA. Remember Jenga? That game where you try to carefully remove a block from the stack without toppling the whole pile? I remember playing that for the very first time at a graduation party my friend Kim and I threw when we graduated from high school waaaaaay back in the late 80s. My kids play it now, except our dog chewed about\u00a01\/3 of the blocks, which makes them quite a bit less easy to pull out of the stack without toppling the whole thing. Dog…!<\/p>\n

So, back to my problem.<\/p>\n

I need to take out a little part of my story. But if I take out this part, it changes the need for a previous part, which changes the need for a previous part, and so on and so on.<\/p>\n

Toppling blocks.<\/p>\n

And…if I change it, simply switch it\u00a0up\u00a0a little, then it changes what’s at stake for the main character entirely.<\/p>\n

I’ve walked all the way around the table, looking at which blocks to pull, how to safely move them around, how to make this work.<\/p>\n

I can’t see it. At my writers group today, they had some suggestions, but then, they could see how those changes would make the whole tower fall too.<\/p>\n

It’s a conundrum. A real, Jenga puzzler.<\/p>\n

Oh, wait. I think I’ve got something…<\/p>\n
