Meeting Contestants from “The Voice”

By Jennifer Griffith on June 20, 2013

I can’t believe it’s been a whole week since we lived out my Mother’s Day gift dream and went to the LOCAL concert featuring some of this season’s best singers from NBC’s “The Voice.” Time flies!

We took the whole family to see rocking songstress Amy Whitcomb, folk rock duo Midas Whale, and our hometown boy Ryan Innes. Can I just say? There’s a whole lot of talent in these folks. Such fun music, and I can’t believe how long the performance was — nearly 3+ hours of good, rocking music, and it wrapped up with an encore performance of Ryan’s signature song “Georgia On My Mind.” So great.

Annnnd, my youngest two eventually fell asleep, so that was a bit of a bonus. Moms usually love to see a sleeping child.

Here are a few pictures I snapped.

Midas Whale. Because they might as well. Best use of an accordion in a Johnny Cash song of all time. Rocking!

Ryan Innes. I think this is the "My Butter" song. So fun! Massive talent. Unbelievable. And *I* got to sit by his sisters at the pool for an hour this morning, chatting about parenting and such. Nicest family. Love them all.

Overall, I think one of the coolest moments actually came after the concert. My nieces and nephew were dying to meet Midas Whale. I had my camera with me, so I waited to snap the photo of them. Okay, and probably a little part of me was dying to meet them too, since Ryan Hayes’s sister married into the family of one of my fellow JFP authors, Andy Washburn and there’s nothing I love more than to make a connection with someone.

Yes, this is the angle my children see me at every single day. Glamor. Glamor. Glamor. And this is a nice person, this Ryan Hayes.

So, what happened was, even after traveling all day and performing all night, these two fantastic guys were more than nice to a bunch (and I mean a BUNCH) of tween fans who were milling around to say hi in the lobby. They were friendly and smiling and kind. Super, duper cool guys. Not remotely self-important. Loved that. So much.

Midas Whale and my nieces and nephew and some kid-friends. What gracious rock stars. (How often can you say that and mean it?)
